Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Allen J100BL or equivalent
  • Bead: Slotted Tungsten Beadhead
  • Thread: UTC 140 Thread
  • Dubbing: Matching Polar Dubbing and Red Superfine Dubbing
  • Tail: White feathers from a hungarian partridge

The only substitution you can make on this fly aside from color and hook style is the tail.  I use the white feathers of a hungarian partridge saddle, but similar coq de leon saddle fibers should work fairly well.

You can variate by color and by hook style making this a standard nymph with no jig-style and any color if you have the thread.  I really like purple, brown and olive variations.

The euro cream dart is one of my favorite flies both due to it’s ease of tying and ability to catch fish. You can mix and match color options, but the basic fly is easy to tie. The key benefit of this fly is it’s slim profile. a bulky fly with the same bead size will sink 2-3x slower than this fly. I’ve learned that a sparsely tied fly is almost just as good as a heavily weighted fly.

This fly is very sparse and sinks like a bullet in the water allowing you to fish this as a single fly option in pocket water and get it right where you need it, or fish it in a 2 or 3 fly set up with success.  I often fish this as my point fly (bottom) in a three fly set up in faster waters where getting deep is getting fish.
