The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
Tying Tips: Take your time and practice packing and stacking deer hair. Use a razor blade to trim the hair a little bit at a time. Use a very heavy thread like GSP or kevlar.
This fly will float very well because deer hair is hollow. If it starts to sink you can use some floatant on its back. Fish these any where big trout are active at dusk or at night. If you live near your fishery try trapping a few mice/rats to see what colors and sizes the fish usually see. The foam tail and ears also help keep this fly running on top.
Pretty much every mouse imitation is fished the same. The best way to get an idea for how to fish one is to trap it and put it in the water to see how it swims. They swim upstream at an angle, the best way to imitate that is to cast to the bank and strip the fly with quick short strip off the bank upstream. Use a heavy floating line and a big enough rod to catch your new trophy trout.
Bass and pike love mice too!
