Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Allen N304 Hook or Equivalent
  • Beadhead: Cyclops Tungsten Beadhead (Red, Brown, Black)
  • Thread: UTC 70 Denier (Tan, Brown, Black)
  • Wire: UTC BR Wire Gold
  • Tail: Pheasant Tail Fibers
  • Body Dubbing:  Hares Ear (Tan, Brown, Black)
  • Tinsel:  Small-Medium Flash Tinsel
  • Hackle: Specked Partridge Feather
  • Touch-Dub Material: Hares Ear (Tan, Brown, Black) (use dubbing wax)

This is a custom pattern from TCTH and doesn’t have many substitution options.  If you need to however cause you don’t have the materials, here’s some options:

  • Tail: Hungarian Partridge Fibers or goose biots
  • Body Dubbing: SLF Dubbing or Squirrel Dubbing
  • Touch-Dub Material: Any long, coarse dubbing or even a CDC hackle will work.

The only variations that exist for this pattern are colors. Black, natural/grey with a red beadhead and brown with a gold bead are the best options, but pick colors you like and I suspect olive would do exceptionally well.

The neverbug is a invention of TCTH and is meant to be an all purpose search pattern. You’ll “never” get tired of fishing it and the fish won’t get tired of eating it. It imitates a mayfly nymph like a green drake or other medium sized mayfly nymphs as well as a caddis emerger and a stonefly nymph. Check out the video and learn how to tie the flies in all the different colors.

This fly was designed as a perfect first fly in a two fly nymph rig or as a dry dropper nymph.  Small creeks and freestone rivers are the best place for this fly.  It looks a little like everything and imitates nothing much like a hares ear and the fish never get tired of it.
