The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
This is a great fly for beginner tyers to really get creative with and perfect their jig flies. Since this fly already uses very little materials, you can add one or two to get exactly what you want, or keep it the same for a quick and effective fly. For more of an emerger style fly, or a little bit of bugginess, try adding some CDC to the collar that will trap air bubbles for that nice emerger look. If you need a bit of flash, some UTC mirage pearl tinsel can make a great flashback wing case. If you want a more 3-d ribbing, just adding wire can be great, or try using midge tubing to keep that thin profile.
This jig fly is a slender, smooth bodied nymph that is certain to get to the bottom of any river you’re fishing quickly. With the jig style hardware, you don’t have to worry about surveying the very bottom as the point of the hook rides up and away from snags on the bottom. This is a fly that you can really play around with to get that exact look to either match a certain hatch, or just get the attractor that you want to get those fish’s attention.
The main purpose of this fly is to be fished euro nymph style, but can be used universally on a traditional nymph rig, or as a dropper on a dry-dropper rig. Be sure to give this fly the line it needs to reach the bottom, or close to the bottom because it will get there quickly to fish the rivers efficiently.
