The pattern itself is a variation of the parachute adams and just uses purple thread for the body. This concept can be applied to any parachute style mayfly dry pattern to imitate a variety of insects or even be used as an attractor pattern like this fly.
This pattern is as good as a parachute adams in my opinion and overall a littly gimmicky. That said I absolutely love purple as a color for flies and have found a great amount of success with it as a color overall. i think this variation on the parachute adams is a great edition to any fly box and if you can find confidence with this fly then you will find success with it on the water. Any parachute style dry fly has a great profile on the water and attracts fish well as it imitates a mayfly.
This fly has found most of it’s success out in the west and when fish seem to be having troubles eating your dry during the doldrums of summer, this pattern seems to attract them better than more realistic patterns. When the water is warm enough to wet wade and fish seem to be tired from the heat, this fly can bring them to the surface with good success.
