The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
This is a great fly to experiment and have fun with. The color combinations for this fly are endless, and since it is more of an attractor style pattern, you don’t have to be explicit with the colors. For a more terrestrial looking dry fly, try adding small rubber legs at the wing to give the impression of a beetle! If you want a more synthetic fly, you can replace the deer hair wing with brown antron yarn, or brown polypropylene. This fly can imitate a lot of different insects, maybe even try an orange and black one for cicadas!
This is a high riding foam fly that will float all day through swift currents. If you like fishing small quick streams, this is the caddis imitation you have been searching for. There isn’t anything on this fly that doesn’t already like to float, so don’t be afraid to hang a beaded nymph off the back of it for a great dry dropper set up. The customization and fishability of this fly grants it a spot in every anglers summer box.
This is a great caddis imitation that will produce fish over and over again, with very little technique in fishing it. The foam and hackle float this fly up high so you can skate it across those long slow moving pools, and also allow it to ride high in the riffle sections above those. If fishing small streams, you may find that this is the only fly that you need for the day, as it works great as a single dry fly. If you want to hang some tungsten beaded nymphs off of it, the fly has the backbone to support just about anything you dangle off the back.
