Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Standard jig nymph hook #12
  • Bead: Plummeting tungsten bead 3.3mm rainbow hue
  • Weight: Lead free round wire .015
  • Thread: UTC 70 denier red
  • Tail: Pheasant tail fibers
  • Body: Flashabou pearl
  • Rib: Soft round wire small silver
  • Thorax: Rainbow scud dubbing
  • Collar: Thread collar
  • Hook: Any standard jig nymph will work, and standard hooks work just as well.
  • Bead: Any tungsten bead will work. Slotted beads fit on jig hooks a bit better than standard beads.
  • Weight: This can be skipped.
  • Thread: Any thin diameter thread will work fine. Go as thin as you like, but try not to go thicker than 70 denier or 8/0. Make sure the thread is red for the body and hotspot collar.
  • Tail: Pheasant tail fibers are always good nymph tails, but if you want something stronger than that, Coq-de-Leon will do good.
  • Body: Any flat pearl tinsel will work great here.
  • Rib: Any small round silver wire can work here.
  • Thorax: Grab your favorite rainbow scud dub!
  • Collar: Thread collar.

This is just a basic rainbow warrior just on jig hardware. Anything you can think of to do to a standard rainbow warrior can be applied here. CDC soft hackles or partridge soft hackles can work great.

This is just a rainbow warrior on a jig hook. The advantage of a jig hook is that it allows the hook to ride hook point up, which decreases the likely-hood of getting snagged along the bottom of the river. This is a great little attractor pattern that can be fished in tandem with other nymphs or by itself under a dry fly.

Fish this like you would a standard rainbow warrior. The nice thing about this one is that the jig hook allows the use of euro style nymphing a lot easier than the standard pattern. Fish it under an indicator, euro style, or under a dry fly and get the best dead drift possible for the best results with this fly.
