Tying Video
This is a great streamer to get started tying streamers with. This is not only because the color options are endless, but the way this streamer is set up, it makes the tier start to think more about wing lengths and dual tone streamers. This is also a great pattern to turn into an articulated streamer, either for more length, or for more action. If you choose to do this, be sure to get an articulation material that can hold up. Hareline makes a great articulation wire, or 30# braided line can work great. If you aren’t familiar with body tubing, or just want something a little different, try cactus chenille as the body. If you go this route, consider using long fibered dubbing spun in a dubbing loop for the collar. This can simulate the same thing that goes on with the body tubing in the collar of the original pattern.
This is a quick tie for a streamer that produces strikes from many species of fish. This fly can be fished virtually anywhere with it’s small baitfish appearance and can be tied in numerous colors to match the exact forage that you want to imitate. This is a great streamer to start tying and fishing with because it is an easy tie, and it is easy to fish.
This fly fishes great with just a normal strip retrieve. If fishing in cooler temperatures, try slowing your retrieve, or swinging the fly with the current to get a reaction from lethargic fish. This fly can also be sized down and dead drifted under a bobber for a great lead fly in a nymph rig. In the summer, when the fish are more active, the speed of the retrieve can be sped back up, and become more jerky to try to get as much action out of this streamer as possible.
