Feel free to do whatever you like to get what you want from this fly. For something that pushes a bit of water, build up a dubbing or wool head in front of everything for something that really pushes some water. For a little bit more shimmer in the water, replace the predator wrap in the body for some larger polar chenille, or aqua veil chenille. If you want more of a tail in the back, consider adding some craft fur for more of a taper at the end of the fly.
This is a great little swing pattern that can be fished in many different situations for several species of fish. With the hot spots on the stinger hook resembling eggs, this is a great fly to fish in the spring or fall, when fish are moving in and out of reservoirs and spawning grounds leaking eggs into the river systems.
This is a versatile fly that can be fished with either a swing style presentation or a standard streamer strip retrieve. If fishing this fly swing style, use a standard approach with a down and across cast. Cast towards the opposite bank and downstream at about a 45 degree angle and let the river pull the fly across the river back towards the bank you are on. If fishing across multiple currents, or in colder weather, an upstream mend may be appropriate to slow the fly down and really get it in the face of the fish. Like all streamers, slow the presentation down during colder water temperatures, and increase speed as the temperature rises.
