Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight eye streamer hook
  • Weight: .020 non-toxic wire wrap
  • Tail: Frayed mylar tubing
  • Body: Pearl mylar tubing
  • Back: White zonker strip
  • Throat: Red hackle

  • Use any color zonker you want for the back
  • Use any hackle you like for the collar
  • Add some flash along the back and tie in to the head if you like more.
  • Add a cone head if you need the fly to get deeper.
  • Tie these in any color you wish and in varying sizes.
  • Olive, white, black, and natural are my favorite colors.

This simplistic streamer pattern uses few materials and can be tied quickly. The flash body creates a really cool realistic fish body while the zonker strip and hackle collar produce lots of movement. This fly can easily be adjusted to add more weight to get the fly deeper and can be tied with tons of color combos.

Try stripping these slowly through the water column to imitate a dead/dying baitfish. Just make sure to get the fly deep enough to the fish. Try using this fly under an indicator as a nymph, strip it near structure, deep through currents, or next to cut banks to entice strikes.
