Dry

This fly is great because it imitates a variety of insects. We all have those days where the fish don’t seem to be eating anything. On these days, trudes seem to work exceptionally well. It must look enough like everything to get the trout willing to move. I’ve had some of my best days on these flies and it all started slow with no fish eating anything and then I tied this guy on and started finding fish. Use this fly when all else seems to be failing.

Dry

This big hunk of foam is a wonderful representation of a hopper, as well as being somewhat easy to tie. As long as you prepare your foam bodies, the rest is very straightforward and easy to get the hang of. This bug also rides well with a trailer fly underneath it or behind it. Another added bonus is that it floats like a cork. A great choice for late summer drift boat fishing, and wading alike.

Estimated Tying Time: 5-7 Min

Dry

The Pink Pookie is much less involved on the vise than lots of the other hopper patterns out there which makes it a favorite for many. It may be quicker and easier to tie, but it doesn’t compromise on performance. Early summer when the hoppers just start to steadily come off is when this guy will shpw it’s true colors and put fish in your net. Tie a few on the long days of runoff to prepare yourself for warmer weather!

Estimated Tying Time: 7-10 Min

Nymph

This fly is a great all around producer fly with many functions. With practically no appendages or any bulk, this fly sinks quickly and will stay down in the strike zone where trout are munching on nymphs. This is a very quick tie as well and the materials are not as costly as some other flies. If this one ends up on a log at the bottom of your favorite hole, it doesn’t hurt as much to leave it down there, but it will more likely end up in a fishes mouth!

Estimated Tying Time: 1-3 Min
